By the way, why aren’t there more dishes out there involving blue rice? Blue rice is awesome.

So okay. Nate’s been on reddit a lot and /r/fitness and through that he discovered the ketogenic diet. For those of you that are all like TLDR, a ketogenic diet is generally prescribed as a last resort to children with hard to treat epilepsy, but it also helps you lose weight like nobody’s business if you’re doing it for fitness reasons. It’s a low-carb diet: Atkins is a popular example of a ketogenic diet. You take in only 20 - 50 grams of carbs a day (which, if you ever read Nutrition Facts, is not very effing much) and you take in an appropriate amount of protein and fat for your height/body size.
‘Course this largely means cutting sugar & starch out of your diet.
So the problem I’m facing is this: if my husband wants to change his diet, then by extension I’m going to have to at least modify mine to make it more compatible with what he’s allowing himself to eat. I figure what the heck, it can’t be that hard to find things to replace pasta, bread, rice, and starchy fruits and vegetables so I can still eat dinners with my husband at night, right?
I’m putting out a call to you, fellow Masticators: where are some good resources for keto recipes so my husband and I can eat the same food? I will add them to my Google Docs recipe book.

Since I try my best to follow a pretty low-carb dairy-free protein-and-fiber-high diet these days, Brett’s mom just sent me a website full of grain, refined sugar, gluten and lactose free recipes. Paleo diet, Celiac, lactose intolerant, and in many cases vegetarian (or vegan if you use a honey substitute) friendly recipes for things like sandwich bread, jam, chocolate truffles, curries, tacos, ice cream, and more. It looks like the ingredients may be kind of hard to find (it replaces most grain flour with almond or coconut flour, for example), but if you live in a place where they’re available it gives you an alternative for those days you’re tired of steak and veggies, at least.
All gluten, dairy, grain, and refined sugar free!
